Joko Susilo presented the Fall of Alengka accompanied by Gamelan Padhang Moncar as part of the Out of the Suitcase Puppet Festival in Wellington.

Members of Gamelan Wellington travelled to Dunedin for this weekend festival featuring talks, performances and workshops by gamelan exponents from around NZ and Australia.

Gamelan Padhang Moncar kicked off the Open Day of the NZ School of Music at the Beehive, part of a city-wide celebration of the 150th Birthday of Wellington as the capital of New Zealand.

Gamelan Padhang Moncar were pleased to perform at this all-day festival at St Patrick’s College (Kilbirnie) to assist fund-raising for their building.

PERF 250 students’ final assessment for their NZSM course in Javanese gamelan, with Gamelan Padhang Moncar, Gamelan Taniwha Jaya and special guest, master puppeteer Dr Joko Susilo.

A small group of musicians from Gamelan Padhang Moncar performed their inspired take on the traditional Javanese musical style at Eyegum Secret House Party Round 23 featuring Graeme Jefferies.

A celebration of the life of Jack Body, long-time gamelan manager and worker of wonders, was held at St Andrews on the Terrace, Wellington, including performance by Gamelan Padhang Moncar and Budi S. Putra.

Jack Body (1944-2015) was fundamental in the development of gamelan in New Zealand, acting as manager for the Gamelan Padhang Moncar for many years, introducing many composition students to gamelan music and fostering the composition of new works for gamelan. We were delighted to play welcoming music for the Wellington launch of this book celebrating him.
