Joko Susilo (Javanese dalang) and Megan Collins presented ‘Kaba Iniak Mudo‘ with Wayang kulit Javanese) shadow puppets), Kaba (Sumatran song & story telling), and music from The First Smile (Cirebon gamelan). The show about tigers was much enjoyed by children aged 4 years and up.
This was followed by an illustrated talk by Joko Susilo about his own training and experiences as a traditional puppeteer in Indonesia. Techniques and repertoire of wayang kulit were demonstrated with reference to the extensive collection of puppets brought with the Cirebon gamelan to New Zealand by Allan Thomas in 1974.
